The Azalea model is an extremely popular model one of the Sun City Grand Classic Series floor plans in Surprise AZ. It's one of the only Sun City Grand models that have a great room and split bedroom configuration yet selling for less than $250K. What is the advantage of a split bedroom floor plan? Unsung Heros in Surprise Arizona Fire Dept Crisis Response Team

Surprise Arizona Fire Dept Crisis Response Team

A friend of mine who lives in Sun City Grand volunteers with the Surprise Fire Dept Crisis Response Team. With the exception of the program supervisor, all members are volunteers. In order to remain in the program, volunteers must contribute at least sixteen hours a month. Initially volunteers undergo several weeks of training which includes dealing with the families and loved ones of victims of natural and accidental death, suicide, child and spousal abuse, auto accidents, mental illness, loss of a child, and fire victims.

Crisis Response Team members are not first responders. Their quarters are at fire station 301 in Surprise AZ. When they are needed they are dispatched along with fire and police units to a scene by the Alarm Room located in Phoenix. The Alarm Room manages all dispatching throughout the valley. Crisis Response volunteers are notified via a fax as to the location and nature of the incident. The Crisis Response van has an Mobile Communications Terminal with a map display that displays the location of the incident, the other units that were dispatched and the status of the victim(s). It has a touch screen on which the volunteers communicate their status to the Alarm Room. There is also a radio in the van that is used to communicate and receive voice information to and from the Alarm Room.

There must always be two volunteers on each shift. One volunteer drives the van while the other directs the driver to the scene and communicates with the Alarm Room. Although the van is equipped with all the emergency paraphernalia as other emergency vehicles (siren, flashing lights, preemptor, etc), they cannot be used while the vehicle is en-route. The preemptor can be used to open gates in a gated community but not to change stop lights from red to green.

The Alarm Room is notified via the Mobile Communications terminal when the volunteers arrive at the scene. There are several different actions the volunteers may take depending on the nature of the incident. If it is a death at home the volunteers will approach the police officer in charge of the scene and ask him or her to brief them on the situation. Crises Response volunteers are briefed and directed to the loved one(s) of the victim. The Crisis Response volunteers will introduce themselves to the loved one(s), telling them that Crisis Response is there to help them in any way they can. Initially Crisis Response volunteers will provide emotional support and chat with the loved one until they are over the initial shock of their loss.

In many cases Crisis Response volunteers are dispatched to age restricted communities. Victims may have a spouse to whom they were married for over fifty years. The loss of a spouse can be the worst experience anyones entire life. It is a difficult time for loved ones to think about funeral arrangements and all the other necessary tasks that need to be performed regarding death of a loved one. Crisis Response helps family members choose a mortuary and provides them with a folder that contains a checklist of all the tasks the family will need to do and also information on ways to deal with the grieving process. In the event of a natural death the police will contact the victim's doctor to determine whether the doctor will sign off on a death certificate. If the doctor responds affirmatively the next step is for the loved one to contact a mortuary to have the victim's body taken.

In the event a doctor refuses to sign a death certificate or the police determine that the death may not be natural such as a suicide or homicide, the Medical Examiner's office must be contacted to bring the body to the morgue for examination and possible autopsy.

I asked my friend what's the most difficult response, "responding to a child drowing". As you can see, the job of a Crisis Response volunteer can be very stressful but also very rewarding. Thank you my good friend, and thank you to all other volunteers. You are the unsung heroes in Surprise Arizona!

If you're looking to find a new restaurant in Surprise Arizona, I highly recommend that you try Hayashi Hibachi Japanese Steakhouse. Located at 13823 West Bell Road (near Sprouts Farmers Market), this oriental sushi bar and tepanyaki restaurant is now open for business.

Dine at the sushi bar watching the culinary arts of the skillful sushi chefs. If you don't eat raw fish, not a problem, neither do I. There are numerous vegetable dishes to select from as well as an assortment of cooked fish or cooked salmon sushi.

The tepanyaki hibachi chef prepares your meal hibachi style in a master showmanship, just like those that you've probably seen when visiting Honolulu. Allergic to shell fish? Not a problem, so am I. The chef will skillfully prepare your meal first, then the rest of the table.

It's all about presentation and taste, the sushi and tepanyaki chefs artfully display the final dish. Even the carrots are carved! Among the hibachi entrees are vegetables, chicken, salmon, shrimp, scallop, steak, calamari or fillet mignon.

Makimono roll sushi selections can contain yellow tail tuna, scallion, crab, salmon, tobiko, baked eel, scallops, avocado. My husband's favorites are the Honolulu roll and the Shrimp Tempura Roll.

The outdoor seating area will soon be open for dining.

Weekday hours are from 11am to 9:30pm

Weekend hours are from 11am to 11pm

Reservations can be made for groups of 8 or more. Go early, Hayashi Hibachi is becoming a favorite restaurant for many people who live in Surprise and in Sun City Grand.

Please help! Wyatt and Storm need to find their Iraq soldier dad

Do you recognize these hounds? Helping Orphaned Hounds is a non-kill shelter in Arizona. The shelter is looking for the owner of these hounds. Evidently the dog's owner received his orders for Iraq and left the dogs in care of his neighbor. These yellow Labradors are named Wyatt and Storm.

Unfortunately a glitch occured after the solder deployed. The person who agreed to care for the dogs became allergic and surrendered the two labradors to the Arizona Humane Society. They were later transferred to Helping Orphaned Hounds for assistance.

I felt extremely compassionate after seeing a video of these beautiful animals. They are presently residing at Boulder Falls Pet Resort on East Deer Valley Road in Phoenix, Arizona. The dogs will be held at the shelter until the soldier and his pets can be reunited. If you know Wyatt and Storm's "soldier-dad", have him contact Helping Orphaned Hounds at 406-697-5975.

Texas Sage an Arizona Favorite

During the Arizona summer monsoon season the Texas Purple Sage is at its splendor. Texas Sage is planted throughout Sun City Grand in Surprise AZ, on the common areas, medians and on the ruffs of the golf courses.

I took this picture after a monsoon storm. I have two sage plants on the side of my Sun City Grand home. They are easy to care for and extremely hearty, making it ideal for people like me who have a "purple thumb". The flowering plants attract butterflies, and are in plentiful bloom whenever there is high humidity. Visitors and residents enjoy these stunning flowering plants especially after a monsoon storm.

Sun City Grand Community Garage Sale in Surprise Arizona

Each Fall residents in Sun City Grand have a community yard sale at the Sonoran Plaza Parking lot. As a Sun City Grand resident, I look forward to the garage sale. It's a time that I can probably meet my neighbors and friends, socialize, eat, relax and purchase that little trinket that I can't live without. Only Sun City Grand residents are able to sell items at the yard sale however thousands of people attend the event, coming from all over the valley to purchase that special item.

This year the Sun City Grand Community Garage Sale will be held on November 6, 2010 from 7am to 12 noon. Be sure to mark your calendars for this popular annual event.

Saying goodbye to my dear friend

Peach QTPIE Bowers was born on October 1, 1994. Peach was my faithful companion for over 15 years always loyal, she was my best friend. I could talk to her and she would listen. She always showed me her love, it was unconditional love. She had a keen sense of smell and a little tail that wagged constantly. I think that she loved me as much as I loved her. She gave me comfort and solace.

I first saw her at a week old and took her home with me when she was five weeks old. We were buddies. Peach and I both had curly locks that got straight as we aged. We got old and chunky together.

Peach had a quiet gentle nature, she rarely barked. My friends who visited with me and met her always would say that that she was a sweet loving dog. My children and family always asked for Peach, she was family.

Peach left this world today. She is resting in peace, after having had a long and loving life with me.

I already miss her.

Is it All About Work?

My typical day begins at 5am when I wake up to let my dogs out. Because of the coyotes, I cannot just let the dogs out, I must be there with them as they "do their thing". After 15 or 20 minutes of standing around, we come in to relax and by then, my body and mind have awaken. Coffee next, then emails, dogs get fed, then out we go for their morning walk. It's the same routine every morning.

This morning was a little different. My dog Peach who is almost 16 years old, cannot see well but she sure has a keen sense of smell and is very feisty. Peaches decided that she wanted to eat before I got my coffee made. I opened the frig to get out her dog food and got distracted with the news that was being reported on CNN. Turned around and there was Peaches, checking out a bottle of beer. Bud Light at that! I think that she's been listening to too much TV. No Peach, beer will stunt your growth.

What does this have to do with real estate? Absolutely nothing. Who said that life is all about work?

A few weeks ago this homeowner called Karen and Bill Petersen, the Ken Meade Realty Top Team, to list their property. Karen and Bill asked that I assist them since they were unavailable. Surprise Arizona Recreation Center in Sun City Grand

I left my Sun City Grand home at 5am this morning to meet a friend at my office on Sunrise Boulevard. During the day I enjoy driving on Sunrise due to the golf course views of Desert Springs golf course, it's my most favorite view.

This morning I discovered that the views of the Adobe Spa and Fitness Recreation Center in Sun City Grand is absolutely beautiful, especially during full moon. I was standing almost 500 yards away taking pictures when I noticed the activity in the recreation center. There must have been 50 people walking on the indoor walking path. The recreation center was hopping with activity.

People would think that the retirees would sleep in, enjoying their retirement not having to go to work. Not true! Most baby boomers are active, stay fit and enjoy socializing.
