A dear friend of mine and a Realtor® in my office Diana Mourssali, was recently told that her breast cancer has metastasized again to her liver and is now throughout her body. She has already had a radical mastectomy and has also had 40% of her liver removed.
Diana's oncologist has said that her only hope is a procedure of transcatheter occlusion and radiopharmaceutical therapy (radioactive beads place directly into her liver). Diana’s insurance company has denied the treatment stating that it is experimental and investigational. This treatment is approved for liver cancer.
According to Diana's insurance company, she has breast cancer in the liver since it started in her breast. This procedure is not an approved treatment for breast cancer and has refused to pay for this procedure. Obviously this is just semantics, cancer is cancer.
Diana's oncologist is appealing the insurance denial and is asking that she produce letters from everyone she knows to support her effort to live.
Would you please write a letter to the insurance company on Diana's behalf, requesting that her insurance company reconsider their decision to withhold this treatment? All letters should be sent directly to Diana at the address below. She will present all of the letters to her doctor with his appeal request.

It's so amazing................... with so much technology, brilliant minds, and innovation, yet we still can only find health for the wealthy.................... My heart goes out to Diana, and I hope she can make a big stink about this and draw attention to this bereaucratic bull. Has she got the media involved, at all? I would! Call Rick DeBruhl, they love stuff like this................. in the meantime, eat VEGETABLES and get as much holistic treatments as possible!!!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

Leolinda, this is awful and I am so sorry for you friend being caught up in this insurance nightmare. No wonder insurance companies spent so much money fighting health care reform!

Leolinda, So many people suffer under our current barbaric health system. I lost a brother to melanoma over a year ago, he was at the max of his insurance coverage. If he had lived longer he surely would have died from lack of coverage.

This just breaks my heart. I only met you once but the look I saw in your eyes reminded me so much of the look from my mom. That look of being scared and a look of hope and determination to make it though this. This is wrong of an insurance company cancer is cancer whether it came from breast cancer or not, treatment should be what is best for that location. Experimental? how will we ever know if we don't try. Keep the faith and be strong
I have a suggestion:
Mercy group is an affililate Schaller Anderson which became part of the Aetna Medicaid family of companies in July, 2007)
Writing to the grievance department of Mercy won't get anyone very far.
Better to send letters should go to the top executives--
The initial letter might just come from the powers at AR who in effect have a "lobby" of 170000
Realtors--why not ask them if they'd be interested in getting on board with this...?
The details in your post should be a part of that letter. You may wish to pursue that...then, the next step would be to orchestrate letter-sending and / or emailing 1000's of letters from AR members to the same executives... this could be done in a matter of a couple of days.
