Other than Sun City Grand, I have not found real estate sold in any other Surprise Arizona community that offered a potential homeowner the opportunity to add a casita when the home was built. Sun City Grand is an active adult community in the West Valley in which a few years ago the age restriction in Sun City Grand was lowered to 45 years of age.
Casita is Spanish for little house. A casita is a detached guest house that is connected to the main home with a privacy wall. There are many homes in Sun City Grand with a casita since it can be used as a hobby room, guest room or perhaps an office. Many homeowners had the foresight to add a casita on to their property during construction.
Sun City Grand homes with a casita are highly sought after since it takes a special lot size due to the size of the casita and its setbacks. When I had my Sun City Grand home built, my casita cost $22,000. Presently, it costs about $50,000 to add a casita. A casita is a separate room, away from the main house. Most have full baths (shower and tub) included with the bedroom setup. Casita sizes range from 200 to 300 sq ft and have their own separate heating and cooling system that is not connected with the main house. The casita depicted has a lovely covered courtyard patio and a water feature.
This casita bedroom has plantation shutters and light and bright colors, a cheeful welcome to guests. Resale value for a home with a casita often outweighs a home with granite and plantation shutters. This is because homeowners can add all of the upgrades to the interior however it is extremely difficult to add a casita.

I used to live in AZ but I never heard the term Casita. Is this a detached guest house or is it attached to the main home. Either way, I can see why they are so popular!
