Ho'oku'i is an Arizona hula group (halau) that performs Polynesian dances. Ho'oku'i means coming together in Hawaiian; it's the spirit of enthusiasm for getting together.
Charleen Arrona is the hula teacher (kumu hula) for Ho'oku'i. Char has taught hula for over 30 years. She started dancing at the age of 7 with kumu hula Piilani Watkins. Char has performed and entertained in Hawaii with the Society of Seven, Don Ho Show, the Moana Hotel, Waikiki International Marketplace, Sealife Park, and Germains Luau. Char choreographs each dance and designs each costume.
Many people young and old have moved from from Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand, Tahiti and Marshall Islands, now making Arizona home. Hawaii is frequented by many Arizona residents. Direct flights from Phoenix to Honolulu by Hawaiian Airlines has made provided easy access to the Hawaiian Islands. Ho'oku'i dancers reunites life in the islands, getting kamaainas and malahines to come together as one to enjoy entertainment of the Polynesian islands.
